Minutes from the March 20, 2002 PAC meeting The following items were discussed in the most recent meeting of the Physics and Astronomy Club. PAC will sponsor a graduation ceremony for our graduating physics undergrads/grads (Rachel Ruch, Jeff Carlin, Diane Riley-Cole, Albert Greer, Greg Grist, Vincenzo Pinto, Amy Reines, and perhaps others). The SFSU graduation ceremony is on Sat May 25, 12-4pm. The College of Science and Engineering does not have its own ceremony. The Physics and Astronomy Club will have our own graduation ceremony off-campus somewhere. Email afuller@stars.sfsu.edu with suggestions for places. Some possibilities include Dolores Park, picnic spots, etc. We should all get there early to reserve tables. Please send Abby your ideas on this. How about Saturday evening, May 25, or early Sunday May 26? We will have a time for each student to share, be recognized, and have faculty and/or students give anecdotes about them. We have $1200 for this event from the PAC budget, and are trying to get more money from Assoc. Students. We'll tell the professors that the students want them to be there. The PAC fieldtrip to SLAC has unfortunately been cancelled or postponed, because the folks at SLAC limited our group to 5 persons and we had 15 who wished to go. Mars Madness! This Friday at 5pm in the Planetarium we will celebrate Mars Madness. After a Planetarium show we will watch the classic War of the Worlds movie. Be there for a rollicking good time! The Pacific Coast Gravity conference at UC Davis! We are leaving next Thurs night. The conference runs from March 29th through March 30. We need to double-check hotel reservations and work out who's driving. On Thursday April 11, about 40 rowdy 12-year-olds will be in our Planetarium from 10:30 to 12:30PM. If anyone wants to help show kids the wonders of the universe, contact Daryl Haggard at dhaggard@stars.sfsu.edu. And thanks to Andy for getting PIZZA! |
