Corals

At first I decided to have a page similar to the others, where I'd list the corals, say a little something about them, then show some pictures. But being as I got a few more from a swap fest it seems that this page might turn into one huge long coral picture page, which is something I don't really want. So instead I've shot some generic pictures of some groups I have around the tank that I'll cycle through periodically, with a few words, with some clickable links to the specific corals so you can see their growth. Being as I've not had corals in my tank for a terribly long period of time the growth is something short of spectacular.

Here's a shot on the right side of the tank, with some of the brown button polyps I got in the top left corner that I picked up at a frag swap. A rock with some purple mushrooms (striped and unstriped) and my anemone, which lives deep within the rockwork and stretches out every 2 days for food. The mushrooms might be a little too close for comfort to the anemone though, so I might have to move the mushrooms someplace else.

This is the left side of the tank, and right smack dab in the middle, is Fred, my new toadstool, who was donated to me by someone who needed to find a new home for Fred, and being as I had a large enough tank I volunteered. Also are some green/brown mushrooms which I brought to the swap meet and after evicerating a few, they started to contract small enough that I could chisel the rock with the mushroom attached for less damage, there still are plenty of mushrooms on this rock and seems they are doing fine. Behind the mushrooms is a piece of caulflower colt that was a little baby frag that broke off a main branch that was also donated to me, it has grown nicely since I first got it, although it had a more purplish hue originally, but that's to be expected with different lighting setups. Finally on the left are some junk corals that were donated in the hopes they would get better, they are candy cane corals, and while they aren't doing particularly well you can see a few of them are actually coming back and getting a more darker mantle, I'll post pictures of these when and if they get to a respectable level of health.

This is another right side picture, you can see the same button polyps as before. In the middle is a rock with metallic green mushrooms which I also brought to the frag swap, and this rock went down smaller in size than the other, mostly because the mushrooms on this were rather large and I had to stop giving out pieces because I still wanted a few for myself, I might try to do a razor blade trick and propagate these since they seemed to be popular, there looks to be 3 on the rock right now, one big one thats on top, and two smaller ones trying to get some light peeking out the sides. Finally on the left there's another junk piece of coral that was donated to me,pineapple coral I believe, when I got it it was mostly a yellowish white color, now the top part has turned brown which isn't probably a good sign, but near the bottom quite a few little green eyes/mouths have appeared in each of the honeycombs, which sounds like a good thing (atleast for that part of the coral), but being as I'm unsure what conditions they like most I can't say why some of it is dying while the rest isn't.

This is the top right side of the tank ontop of some rockwork. To the far right is my original first coral, the candy cane I chopped it in half and brought it to a the frag swap and few really liked the color of it, I'm tempted to slice it in half again just so the heads will have more room to expand and grow. In the middle is another junk coral I got called a Orange Sun polyp, its not a particular easy coral to take care of in my opinion because the polyps (yellow things in the picture) tend to open up at night, and feeding at night isn't easy because all the shrimp and crab smell the food too and usually go grab it, but it has opened up a lot more than when I originally got it, so it's doing a bit better. The finally on the left was an orange button polyp that I got at the frag swap, the picture really doesn't do it justice as the fringes are quite bright orange, with a little lavender mouth at the center.

Here's a shot closer towards the middle of the tank. The
