Do the following project. Use the book! If you don’t have one, share one with a lab partner! Explain what happens! Draw a picture! Have fun! Please type up your results!

1. (CP pg 251 project 2) Lower a drinking glass, mouth downward, over a small floating object. What do you observe? How deep can you push the glass under water? Why? What?

 2. (CP pg 251 project 4) Raise a filled glass of water above the waterline, but with its mouth beneath the surface. Why does the water not run out? What’s going on?

3. (CP pg 251 project 8) Heat a small amount of water to boiling in an aluminum soda-pop can and invert it quickly into a dish of cold water. into a dish of cold water. What happens? Why?

4. (CP pg 251 project 9) Make a small hole near the bottom of an open tin can. Fill it with water, which proceeds to spurt from the hole. Cover the top of the can firmly with the palm of your hand and the flow stops. Explain what happens.

5.(CP pg 301 project 2) Watch the spout of a teakettle of boiling water. What do you see? Where is the steam? Now hold the flame of a candle in the cloud on steam. What happens? Why?
