Physics 101: Extra Credit
Each extra credit is worth a possible 10 points, depending
on what it is and how well you do it. You can do each one once
and you have until the final exam day to do it.
Planeatarium Visit
Visit the SFSU planetarium for the free Public Show on
Wednesday, December 6 and 13 ONLY at 7pm in Thornton Hall, 4th floor.
If you can't make that date/time, then you can visit the Morrison
Planetarium
in Golden Gate Park or Chabot Planetarium in Oakland. Write a brief summary (typed!) on what you saw, attatch your ticket to it and turn it in.
Visit the Exploratorium
Go the the Exploratorium, interact with 3 installations and
write up a brief explanation of the physics that is going on.
Attach your ticket to it. There is a free day at the Exploratorium
and I think they have student discounts. Check it out at
www.exploratorim.edu.
You can also find information on all the
installations on the website. TYPE IT!
Visit the SFSU Observatory @ Night
Visit the SFSU Observatory on the top of Thornton Hall. Check the dept for the schedule. It is Open only if it is clear! Call first if you are not sure! 338-7707. Draw and explain what you see and do and have the astronomer sign a piece of paper proving
you were there. Observe at least 3 objects.
Visit the SFSU Solar Observatory
Solar Observering occurs during the day. Check the dept for the schedule.
Draw and explain what you see and do and have the astronomer present sign a piece of paper proving you were there. Observe at least 3 differnt phenomena.
Do some research online or in an Astro book to explain what it is you saw. List your references. Type it up and hand it in!
Take Home Lab
Do this Take Home Lab. Type up results and turn it in. Follow the instructions EXACTLY!
Write a Letter about a Nuclear Issue
Express your opinion and defend it with physics!
You must write a letter to an elected representative, a
newspaper or someone of influence. You must show me a
version of it so I can give you feedback. Then you give it
to me in an addressed stamped envelope. For information
on topics and links to your reps go
here and click on "Politix."
Don't do this till we get to the chapter on nuclear energy.
See a Play or watch a Movie on physics!
You can go see the Bucky Fuller Play in SF or watch a NOVA or
some other video BUT - you have to clear it with me first.
Type up a review talking about the physics of it.
