Class exercise for September 20th

An airplane is moving around a circle of radius 225 m. Draw vectors representing the particle's instantaneous velocity at point A and acceleration at point B.

 

If the pilot wants the acceleration at point B to equal g, then what should be the airplane's speed at B?
 
  a = v2/r = g

So

v = Ö (gr) = Ö (10 m/s2)(225 m) = 47 m/s


 

If the speed remains constant around the circle, what is the period of the motion?

T = 2p r/v = 2p (225 m)/(47.4 m/s) = 30 s (2 sig fig)
