Astronomy 115-06 Fall 2007
Extra Credit Opportunities
Each extra credit assignment will be scored on a scale of 4 points, and is worth up to 2% of your final grade. (So a score of 1/4 earns you .5%, 2/4 earns you 1%, 3/4 earns you 1.5%, and 4/4 earns you 2%.)
You can earn extra credit once for each activity (so you can only earn extra credit for one media report and one lecture report per semester).
- Option 1: Media Report:
Cut out or print out a media report (newspaper article or on line
news source) regarding astronomy and bring it to
class. Attach a piece of paper in which you provide:
- Name of source.
- One to three paragraphs describing the article, and how
it is connected to things you have learned about in Astronomy 115.
- What questions you still have after
reading the story.
- Your opinion of the quality of the writing.
- Option 2: Lecture Report:
Attend an astronomy lecture and write a summary of what you learned
(roughly 1 page). Provide:
- The location, the speakers name (and their institution if possible)
- The topic of the lecture
- A description of what you learned and what questions you might
have after hearing the talk.
