Research & Teaching Experience:

San Francisco State University, San Francisco, CA

Research Assistant, 2001-Present

Assist Dr. Adrienne Cool, researching compact binary star systems in the globular cluster Omega Centauri. Data reduction and source characterization in two data sets, (1) a ~70 ksec observation of the cluster with the Chandra X-ray Observatory's Advanced CCD Imaging Spectrometer and (2) a 3x3 mosaic of Wide Field Camera pointings with Hubble Space Telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys.

National Science Foundation Graduate to K-12 (GK-12) Teaching Fellow, 2001-2002

Selected by P.I. Dr. John Stubbs as a San Francisco State University GK-12 fellow. Collaborated with two 6th grade Earth Science teachers and a 7th – 8th grade Special Education science teacher on-site at Gloria Davis Middle School.

Research Assistant, 2000-2001

Worked with Dr. Roger Bland, investigating soliton wave production in boat wakes in the San Francisco Bay. Developed theory and simulated both Kelvin wakes and solitons using Mathematica and IDL.

Teaching Assistant, 2000-2001

Led physics laboratories under the supervision of Dr. Roger Bland. Facilitated discussion and exploration of physics concepts through hands-on experiments, graded all in-class and written work and determined final grades.

Instructor, 1999-2000

Taught “Introduction to Physics Concepts,” funded through the Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) and Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE) programs, designed to incorporate the Socratic method and other peer-learning techniques.

Astronomical Society of the Pacific, San Francisco, CA

Project ASTRO Volunteer, 2002-Present

Astronomer partner to the SMART program. Lead monthly after school projects and activities designed to promote understanding of astronomical concepts and student participation.
