The rms signal strength is shown, for both propagation directions, during Summer 1997. During the summer the load of suspended sediment is low, so this data serves as a control sample. No dramatic variation in signal strength is seen.

There are some variations of the order of 20% in the signal, suggesting an attenuation of the pressure signal of 20% as an approximate detection threshold for attenuation by suspended sediment.
