Average velocities, central region versus edges. The average velocities are calculated from the TMS3 calibration data. The edge velocity is averaged over the first and last 25% of each transect, and the center velocity is averged over the middle 50%. Note the larger velocity in the central region, and that the edge velocity "turns" (passes through zero velocity) about 10 minutes before the velocity in the center. It is these features which we are trying to model quantitatively. (Plot done with Matlab script p91031a.m.)
