Numerical Problem 11.01: The Twin Paradox

Follow the twins through their voyage numerically, using the velocity-addition formula. Using this technique it is easy to put in an acceleration which varies with time, as it would as fuel was exhausted. For a starter program, COPY this idl program to your directory: ~bland/teach/703/probs/np1101/space1.pro It sends a twin to alpha-Centauri. Try it out.

(a) Modify the program to complete the trip; bring the astronaut home.

(b) Modify the parameters of the program and use it to check your results from problem 11-4 (or to check the instructor's results).

Note: As in problem 11.4, let's all agree to take c = 3 x 108 m/s, g = 9.8 m/s2, and days in year = 365.25, exactly!
