The following experiments are carried out by all of the people taking the project lab for the first time.

• Lab A1: Introduction to Computing Facilities and Techniques. This lab is a series of short exercises designed to introduce the student to the Physics and Astronomy Computer System and to various applications and techniques which will be used in the project lab. These include: Logging Onto the System; Some Unix Commands; The Unix File System; Text Editors; X-Windows and Graphical Applications; Web page and HTML; Powerpoint. An account on the Department computer system is required.
