Please send me an email (bland at stars.sfsu.edu) from the Department computer system, logged on in room TH 123 or accessing the system via SSH from your computer at home. This is to make sure that your account is active and working, and that you will be able to log on to carry out the exercises involving IDL. For more information about the computer room, see computer room status.
The Physics and Astronomy mail server stars.sfsu.edu is on the way out, and now only allows you to send mail. But if you want to try it, here is how to send an email from your stars account. You probably will need to connect to the computer named th123-13.sfsu.edu. Do this using ssh. For instance, from a Linux machine, enter "ssh -Y th123" from the command line. Then proceed as below.

You may feel that this is not the most elegant mail program you have ever seen. But lots of people who work on Unix systems use it.
