Scanning In Images

There is a scanner in the P&A Computer Lab attached to one of the MS-Windows installations. Operating the scanner is fairly straightforward. Getting the files to your destination is not as easy.

Here is a first-hand description from John Pommier of one successful route from photograph to PostScript file on stars. Other graphics formats are available directly from the scanner.

Hi Roger

I put the image into a jpeg format then when downloading I used
binary (in the lower right corner of Fetch), and raw data. When
I logged onto Hodge I used xv to convert it into .ps. It worked
       nicely!

Be sure to save the image file to your Unix user space so that you can access it [with xv] under Unix.
